Prior to working with Path Wellbeing, this client was living daily life with low energy levels, brain fog, sleep issues and high anxiety. Emergency room visits were a frequent occurrence, sometimes taking place multiple times a week, as a result of severe panic attacks. The client was taking medication for anxiety, as sleep aids and to reduce chest pain. The client also took antibiotics every few months for recurring ear infections. Their digestive symptoms included Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), nausea and diarrhea.
The client experienced long term burnout from raising young children while working overtime. This burnout continued as they transitioned into becoming the primary caregiver to each of their parents.
Their symptoms affected every aspect of their professional and personal life and made it difficult for them to function normally on a daily basis without
After doing a full intake and assessment and understanding their unique needs, one of our practitioners offered this client nutrition and lifestyle support designed for their specific constitution and imbalances.
Their practitioner understood that the implementation of this treatment plan would need to be co-created with the client to to ensure success. Making sustainable changes requires working at a pace that addresses imbalances at their root cause.
The client’s relationship to food was riddled with guilt. Their eating habits consisted of going many hours without eating, followed by overindulgence on poor food choices.
We focused their nutrition plan on instilling positive habits and reducing stress in the gut. The goal was to change their relationship with food from one of guilt to one of nourishment. As Ayurvedic practitioners we understand that often times our relationship to food reflects our relationship to self.
We grounded their meal plan into consistent times of day. We worked with mindful eating practices such as taking deep breaths before eating, affirmations of gratitude and eating without distractions. Every new recommendation was implemented individually and with the support and guidance from their trained practitioner.
Making changes in food choices involved switching from processed, packaged foods to whole foods with a focus on grains, legumes and fresh produce. We emphasized a specific and appropriate balance of cleansing and nutritive foods for this client as restoring balance to the mucosal lining of the gut was crucial to recover from multiple rounds of antibiotics. We also used digestive herbs with a cooling a moistening effect.
Relaxation and mindfulness practices were implemented in order to ground their nervous system, cultivate safety and increase self-connection. We crafted routines around their daily activities including prioritizing sleep hygiene.
As with most long-term imbalances, deep healing takes time. Rarely is there here a ‘quick fix’ to sustainable change. The client worked closely with their practitioner on a weekly basis. Within three months, this client made significant changes to their relationship with food. Their bowel movements became regular, nausea dissipated and GERD became a rare occurrence.
Their daily routines became something that made their days more simply and satisfying. This improved their energy levels, reduced their anxiety, and decreased their chest pain. Implementing an integrative approach with their doctor, they began to reduce their sleep and chest pain medications.
After one year, this client was MEDICATION FREE. They were no longer experiencing panic attacks or chest pains. They were falling asleep easily and waking up feeling rested. They could not believe just how much brain fog they had been experiencing for years until it was lifted. They reached their primary goal of feeling like their true self again.
The client continues to see their practitioner, but much less frequently. This provides them with continued lifestyle support through changes in their schedules and nutritional guidance throughout seasonal and life transitions.
NOTE: Stopping medications was a goal that evolved from the client. They wanted to feel more like themselves again and were frustrated with every new medication having side effects that made them only feel farther from their true nature. As practitioners, we work with clients’ goals and individual needs in the most appropriate ways and emphasize the importance of integrative medicine (working with clients primary care providers and western medical specialists) to ensure doses are reduced safely and effectively.
