Prior to working with Path Wellbeing, this client was suffering from intense anger accompanied by digestive and eliminatory dysregulation, skin issues and painful menses.
The client had seen doctors to help address her symptoms but nothing offered a lasting solution and many of the prescription or OTC meds she was taking rendered unwanted side effects such as systemic dryness, headaches, nausea and drowsiness.
After doing a full intake and assessment and understanding her unique needs, one of our practitioners offered this client nutritional and lifestyle support designed for their specific constitution and imbalances.
The client’s primary focus was to reduce her anger, which she felt was interfering with her ability to maintain healthy relationships. Once we learned the client’s constitution – a high pitta dosha or fire-type, which is more likely to experience heated emotions such as anger – her patterns and treatment plan became very clear.
We offered the client a combination of therapies to help her calm her anger in-the-moment, in addition to long-term therapies that would reduce the overall accumulation of pitta, or excess fire, throughout her being. Her treatments included a fire-reducing nutrition plan focused on sweet and bitter tastes to help nurture and cool her system; cool and moist herbal remedies to help regulate her digestive and elimination patterns and normalize liver function; lifestyle therapies with meditation, pranayama and yoga that focused on creating more grounding and flow than building intensity; and talk therapy to help her uncover and work with the root of her anger.
We also planned for a seasonal cleanse to help remove the accumulation of pitta dosha imbalances in her GI tract (where doshic imbalances often begin).
After the first week, the client immediately found some relief in simple lifestyle and nutritional changes. She felt less “charged up” and experienced less digestive distress.
After one month, her digestive and elimination patterns completely normalized with the aid of herbs. By the time of her next menses, she experienced less pain and fatigue. By this time, she had developed a consistent lifestyle routine that helped to ground and calm her more consistently throughout the day. She still experienced bouts of anger and intensity but they lasted for shorter periods of time.
After three months, we implemented a seasonal cleanse that, as a holistic detox, removes accumulated toxins in mind, body and spirit and nurtures the entire being with the elements that most support balance for each individual. This was an important turning point for the client, who said it was like “hitting the reset button on my mental and emotional health”. By this time, her digestion and elimination systems also started to function normally on their own (without herbal remedies), her skin issues cleared up and her menstrual difficulties subsided.
The client continues to engage in talk therapy, learning that anger may always be a part of who she is, but it does not have to control her. She has found forgiveness and lovingkindness for herself and for others, thereby creating long-lasting personal and interpersonal change.
