When this 42-year-old female came to Path Wellbeing, she was working as an International Events Project Manager. She was experiencing constipation, alternating constipation and diarrhea, worry, anxiety, overwhelm, restlessness, fatigue, concentration difficulties, sensitive skin and irritability.
One of our practitioners completed a full intake, assessment and treatment plan for this client:
The client had a high-stress job that required a lot of travel and was exasperated by longterm pressure to live up to impossible ideals of perfection created in childhood.
We learned that this client was suffering from vata and pitta imbalances and, therefore, required a treatment plan that emphasized flowing, cooling and grounding qualities in mind, body and spirit. Most importantly, we needed to build ojas, or strength, vitality and immunity before her longterm patterns of depletion, excess inflammation and low self-prioritization translated into irreversible chronic conditions or disease.
As one of the most healing elements in states of vata and pitta-type depletion, we focused first on increasing the water element in her body by hydrating and lubricating her cells. We introduced nourishing morning teas with demulcent herbs and meals that infused healthy fats and proteins into her diet. We also worked on mindful eating, which can be difficult for anybody with a busy schedule and long-term patterns of being “on-the-go”, but also highly impactful for those suffering from nutrient absorption and gut health.
The client was addicted to coffee – a pattern that would be hard to break – so instead of stopping coffee right away, we introduced a “hydration first” principle while also observing the patterns of caffeine-dependency and working toward a method of energy creation through healthy glucose levels and oxygen delivery to the cells.
It was hard for this client to slow down so, instead, we coached her to build structure and routines that would alleviate the erratic nature of vata over time.
She also learned to prioritize rest – first in small doses then more intentionally and extensively. The client incorporated foot massages with grounding vetiver and engaged in journaling and self-reflection. She also learned the art of abhyanga as a portal to self-love and self-care.
Finally, yoga nidra, offered her one of the greatest healing energies she could have hoped for: intentional, restorative rest through progressive muscle relaxation and thought alleviation.
We introduced digestive herbs and a bowel tonic to help normalize her digestion and elimination patterns. We also incorporated a sleep nasya so that she would enjoy more restful sleep.
During her first work trip after beginning her work with us, she not only slept better but also had regular elimination patterns (bowel movements) everyday.
Her stress patterns decreased and she became less reactive. She looked forward to her nourishing routines and self-care habits and no longer filled empty spaces with busy work. Her PMS symptoms decreased, her skin became less inflamed, and her sleep continued to improve.
She felt all of life’s transitions started to get easier and she engaged in a seasonal cleanse that deeply reset her entire wellbeing profile. She continued her work in a very busy field and continued to travel, but did so with the ease and comfort of knowing she could stay grounded and balanced. She started sharing the gift of Ayurveda with her family and friends.
