Notes

A holiday variation on our famous Ojas Balls, these nourishing treats combine the natural sweetness of dates and apricots with the rich, grounding essence of pecans and walnut butter, all enhanced by warming spices that kindle your digestive fire. Blended with hazelnuts and coconut flakes and bound with coconut oil, each bite delivers sustained energy and deep satisfaction.

You can add unsweetened cacao to the recipe to transform the taste profile into a deeply satisfying bitter-rich chocolate delight. Please note that cacao is stimulating so avoid when feeling overwhelmed or close to bedtime.

The combination of sweet and warming tastes makes these balls deeply satisfying—curbing cravings for excess sugar while providing steady, grounding energy. They’re the perfect antidote to holiday stress: nourishing enough to sustain you through long gatherings, warming enough to maintain digestive strength, and sweet enough to satisfy without depleting your vital energy.

Dosha Type

Vata Reducing: From an Ayurvedic perspective, these date balls are perfectly crafted for the holiday season when Vata dosha needs balancing support. The naturally sweet, heavy, and oily qualities of dates, nuts, and coconut oil provide essential grounding during Vata season’s cold, dry, mobile winds—helping to anchor scattered energy and calm the nervous system during this busy time of year. Skip the cacao if you’re feeling overstimulated.

Kapha Balancing: The warming spice blend of cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, and ginger serves as digestive kindling, stoking Agni (digestive fire) which often becomes sluggish amid heavy holiday meals and reduced physical activity. These spices are particularly balancing for Kapha, helping to prevent the stagnation and heaviness that can accumulate during winter’s cold, damp season. Avoid overconsumption.

Pitta Balancing: The cooling elements of coconut and coconut oil and the heavy qualities in the dates and nuts help to balance the warming spices that can exacerbate pitta and the lightness of the season. Enjoy in fall/winter only.

Cook time: 20–30 minutes on the stove

Cooling/resting time: 4–6 hours or overnight

Serves: 8–12 people (depending on square size)

Texture Notes:
If the mixture is too soft you can cook longer to let the moisture evaporate OR add 2-3 tbsp to mixture and sir.

If the mixture is too wet stir in 1-2 tbsp warm ghee or 1 tbsp maple syrup.

  • Apana Vayu support: Sweet potato, ghee, and maple gently encourage downward, stabilizing energy in the body, helping to ground the nervous system and support elimination.

  • Warm + oily (snigdha): The texture and richness nourish the tissues and help build ojas, the subtle essence of resilience and immunity.

  • Chai spices: Cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove awaken agni softly and steadily, supporting digestion without overstimulating the mind or gut.

  • Holiday-friendly: The recipe is sweet, comforting, and warming, providing satisfaction without being heavy or taxing on digestion during a busy season.
