Prior to working with Path Wellbeing, this client was experiencing excessive gas, constipation, anxiety, overwhelm, difficulty concentrating, fatigue and melancholy. They had been medically diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) several years prior to seeking Ayurvedic care.
They client was chronically ill when they were younger and absent from school many days to fight off a cold, step throat or the flu. Now, in their mid 40s, they continued to find themselves in cycles of constant illness and recovery. However, recovery seemed harder to achieve as body aches and fatigue became weekly norms.
Every aspect of their life seemed to be erratic and their career required a lot of international travel. They struggled to maintain consistent sleep, nutrition and exercise routines, which resulted in pushing through workouts despite jet lag and exhaustion.
Their primary goal when they came to see us was to feel more joy in life and move past the fatigue and melancholy.
After doing a full intake and assessment one of our practitioners co-created a treatment plan with this client that included nutrition and lifestyle support designed for their specific constitution and imbalances.
From an Ayurvedic perspective, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is a condition of aggravated vata dosha. Excess vata, especially when experienced for extended periods of time, can cause dysfunction to all tissue layers of the body and deplete ojas (strength, vitality and immunity). The depletion of ojas was causing their fatigue and melancholy.
Irregular eating times, cold smoothies and raw salads were all contributing to the client’s imbalances. We worked with a nutrition plan that incorporated moist, cooked and nutrient-dense foods that were easily sourced, even when traveling. We incorporated a daily tea of cinnamon and hot water to maintain digestive fire and support cellular hydration.
We also implemented appropriate herbal supports to further strengthen their digestive fire and incorporated a personalized nasya oil, which consisted of fortifying herbs to help strengthen her nervous system. Nasya oil also helps to support immunity during travel as it lubricates the nostrils, cleanses the sinuses and clears the mind.
We incorporated restorative, calming and grounding practices that were flexible with their schedule. Together we curated creative ways to receive self-oil foot massages, yoga nidra, sound healing recordings, specific breath work practices and appropriate uses of aromatherapy.
The client worked closely with their practitioner to slowly implement their treatment plan in a way that did not overwhelm an already over-stimulated system. They were surprised to see how the lifestyle changes they were making were also changing the relationship they had with themself. The better they felt, the more they wanted to make new changes.
At nearly six weeks, this client was no longer bloated and enjoyed a normal, smooth bowel movement almost daily. They had increased focus, while fatigue and melancholy were dissipating.
Their deep healing work continued. They continued to ground their nervous system and replenish their tissues. They experienced more energy throughout the days and could not remember how long it had been since they were sleeping as soundly as they were. Their relationship with their partner was less strained as they had more energy to give and enthusiasm to share.
