Prior to working with Path Wellbeing, this 36 year old female client was experiencing headaches, mood swings, light sleeping, fatigue, and irregular and painful periods. 

She grew up in rural farmland and had moved to the city 15 years prior. Working as an Information Technologist with a heavy workload and tight deadlines, she often worked late hours on the computer and relied on convenience foods for meals. Her stress outlets included high intensity training, long distance running and binge watching tv. 

The Plan We Created

After completing a full intake and assessment with Path Wellbeing, we concluded that she suffered from toxic overload which required a deep cleanse and detoxification pathway reset to jumpstart her healing journey.

The client was exposed to potent toxins from a young age, having growing up in close proximity to commercial farmland where pesticides, herbicides, antibiotics and active farm machinery were used liberally. This toxic accumulation was later compounded by the pollution of living in an urban environment, working a stressful career, and over-reliance on convenience foods, which contain high amounts of artificial coloring, preservatives, refined sugars, artificial sweeteners, nitrates and more.

She also was not a conscious consumer of toxic chemicals found in clothing, cosmetics and cleaning products. We also assessed that she struggled to release endotoxins, or the toxins that come from our own body as a result of chemical processes, bacteria and waste. When the body becomes blocked by stagnation or toxic overload, it struggles to release all forms of toxins, including its own. 

The client’s recommended cleansing protocol encouraged the removal of accumulated toxins by improving the body’s natural detoxification pathway. We knew it would not be possible for the client to live a toxin-free existence so our focus was to reduce her exposure to toxins as much as possible and to increase the body’s ability to process them efficiently and effectively. 

Lifestyle Practices

This client was ready to make necessary changes in order to live life with more energy and less pain. Her commitment to making changes enabled a deeper detox in a shorter period of time. It also provided a full reset from which a new foundation could be built. 

  • Garshana, or dry brushing, was implemented to increase blood circulation, oxygenate the cells and stimulate the removal of accumulated toxins. 
  • High intensity training was replaced with gentle yoga inversion practices. This supported the nervous system while improving lymph drainage, circulation, immunity and energy levels. 
  • Sleep hygiene was emphasized to support the many important detoxification processes that take place during sleep. Work boundaries were put in place to reduce screen time at night and replace that time with restorative practices including alternate nostril breath, abhyanga and yoga nidra. 

Nutrition

The client followed a kitchadi monodiet cleanse for seven days then a whole foods diet that avoided processed and packaged foods. Nourishing yet cleansing meals were required to address hormonal imbalance due to toxic overload, burnout and fatigue. These included mung bean pancakes, bitter green and root vegetable soups, as well as with bone broths and kitchadi. A high protein breakfast helped to stabilize energy levels and foster proper production of hormones throughout the day.

Herbs

Herbs and spices are a wonderful way to improve digestion and the body’s natural detoxification channels. The spices we recommended for this client – based on her own energetics – included turmeric, basil, fenugreek, cumin, oregano, rosemary, ginger and garlic. We also provided an individualized digestive spice blend to prior to meals to balance digestive fire and prevent new toxic accumulation.  We created a mind-balancing nasya oil for intra-nasal consumption to help address stress and light sleep. Nasya oil also improves lymph flow in the head.

Conscious Consuming

One at a time, the client replaced dish-soap, laundry detergent, laundry softener, all purpose cleaners, deodorant, lotions, and cosmetics with clean ingredients from reputable brands or simple DIY recipes. This had a profound affect on decreasing her toxin exposure.

Results & Timeline

Within 3 Months...

The client completed their first kitchadi mono diet cleanse, changed her exercise routines and improved sleep hygiene. As toxins were being drawn out from her deeper tissue layers and moved back into circulation for eventual elimination, her symptoms temporarily worsened and she experienced increased headaches, fatigue and light sleeping. Once many of the toxins were eliminated through the digestive region, these symptoms significantly reduced. Her headaches subsided and energy, mood and sleep all improved.

Within 6 months…

The client introduced more boundaries with work and prioritized cooking whole foods. By spending her time preparing food and with restorative sleep hygiene practices she no longer felt the need to binge watch tv and her sleep, mood and energy continued to improve. Her cycles became less painful and more regular and she felt a deep calling to continue her Ayurvedic health journey.
