Prior to working with Path Wellbeing, this client was suffering from a severe case of intestinal candida (yeast overgrowth in the gut). The client experienced severe digestive issues, including gas and bloating and an irregular elimination pattern.
Systemic candida often results from leaky gut – a condition of intestinal permeability (the degradation of your gut lining due factors such as diet and stress) that allows toxins to leak into your blood stream. If left untreated, leaky gut can lead to a host of medical issues, including autoimmune disorders, arthritis, allergies, asthma, acne, severe fatigue, UTIs, joint pain, among others.
Signs of systemic inflammation were also clear, not only in the client’s gut but also her reproductive and nervous systems, suggesting toxins had already overflowed into her bloodstream and into deeper tissue layers. The client was also very weak and experienced a moderate-severe amount of pain.
After doing a full intake and assessment and understanding the client’s unique needs and health history, one of our practitioners offered this client nutrition, lifestyle and herbal remedies designed for their specific constitution to help support their imbalances.
The client was addicted to sugar (a common occurrence in candida patients as the yeast feeds off of sugars and will signal the brain to acquire more) but needed a nutrition plan without sugar to help cure the candida overgrowth.
We created a food plan that would allow the client to eat foods in the “sweet” family, but without sugar, that would help satisfy cravings without feeding the candida. We also implemented specific anti-candida spicing protocols for her food and a medicated “takra” (or spiced yogurt drink) to support her gut and combat intestinal yeast. She also started a new probiotic regime.
Given the client’s energy and strength levels, she was not a good candidate for an Ayurvedic cleanse. Instead, she took a course of mild herbal remedies to support her digestion and elimination, eliminate toxins from her system and strengthen her liver function. We also implemented important lifestyle therapies to help her manage stress and energy levels.
After one month on an anti-candida food plan, which the client implemented successfully, she lost 10 pounds and started to gauge her hunger signals and cravings better – she felt she had more control over what and how much she ate – an excellent sign that the candida was in retreat. The client’s digestive issues normalized, her elimination pattern became regular and her reproductive system irregularities improved.
After three months, she no longer needed herbal support for her digestion or elimination. The client also started to introduce natural sugars (low sugar fruits) back into her diet without issue.
After four months, her energy levels had increased and she started working out again. She experienced no new signs that the candida was returning to her system and she could feel systemic inflammation subsiding – no pain, no skin issues, no menstrual issues and no irritability.
We also implemented long term subtle body and lifestyle therapies to help her manage stress levels that she felt could tip her backward on her health journey.
