Cacao Energy Balls

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Add walnuts to a food processor and pulse to a meal
  2. Add dates, almond pulp, cacao powder, hemp seeds, cinnamon, cardamom, salt and almond butter or tahini and coconut oil
  3. Mix/pulse to combine – if ingredients aren’t combining in the food processor, it is probably too full; you may need to work in batches
  4. Refrigerate for at least 10 minutes
  5. Spread out coconut shreds on a flat surface
  6. Scoop out a rounded tablespoon of the mixture and roll into balls; roll these balls around in the coconut mixture until evenly coated. 
  7. Store in refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Notes

These sweet treats are packed with minerals, nutrients and essential fatty acids. They are an excellent substitute for when you need a pick-me-up or simply have a sweet craving. The balanced combination of fat, fiber and protein provides you with sustainable energy for longer periods of time than a piece of chocolate or candy bar. Cacao is a natural energizer that also helps to lower blood pressure, improve cholesterol levels and enhance blood flow to your brain and to your heart. Packed with antioxidants, these energy balls could literally help you live longer!

Dosha Type

Cacao energy balls are an excellent treat for all constitutional types seeking a healthy, sweet alternative. Because the qualities inherent in the ingredients are heavy and moist (thereby potentially slowing digestion) all Dosha types – but especially Kapha Dosha (or earth-types) – should enjoy in moderation only.
