Herbal Tea Tonic for Focus

Ingredients

Directions

Instructions:

  1. Mixing the Herbs:

    • Measure out the herbs using the parts ratio. For example, if using teaspoons, use 1 teaspoon each of chamomile, lemon balm, gotu kola and rooibos; and 1/2 teaspoon each of lavender and peppermint.
    • Mix the herbs together in a bowl until well combined.
  2. Brewing the Tea:

    • Boil water and let it cool for a minute to slightly below boiling.
    • Use 1 teaspoon of the herbal blend per cup of water.
    • Place the herbal blend in a tea infuser or teapot.
    • Pour the hot water over the herbs and let steep for 5-7 minutes.
    • Strain the tea into a cup.
  3. Serving:

    • Allow the tea to cool to a safe temperature for children.
    • Sweeten with a little honey if desired (do not give honey to children under 1 year old).

Notes

  • Chamomile: Calming and relaxing, helps reduce anxiety.
  • Lemon Balm: Uplifting and soothing, aids in focus and reduces restlessness.
  • Rooibos: Caffeine-free, rich in antioxidants, supports overall health.
  • Gotu Kola: Enhances cognitive function and focus, very mild and safe for children in small amounts.
  • Lavender: Induces relaxation and is anti-inflammatory
  • Peppermint: Refreshing and aids digestion, adds a pleasant flavour.

Dosha Type

This tea blend is most suitable for Vata and Pitta doshas. 

Vata balancing:

  • Chamomile: Calming and grounding, helps soothe the nervous system.
  • Lemon Balm: Uplifting yet calming, reduces anxiety and restlessness.
  • Rooibos: Non-caffeinated and warming, helps soothe and nourish the body.
  • Gotu Kola: Enhances cognitive function without being overly stimulating.
  • Lavender: Induces calmness and clarity.
  • Peppermint: Refreshing but not overly cooling, helps with digestion which can be an issue for Vata types.

 

Pitta balancing:

  • Chamomile: Cooling and calming, helps reduce irritability and inflammation.
  • Lemon Balm: Cooling and soothing, helps calm an overactive mind and body.
  • Rooibos: Anti-inflammatory and caffeine-free, supports overall health without adding heat.
  • Gotu Kola: Cooling and supportive of mental clarity without causing overstimulation.
  • Lavender: Is calming and cooling. 
  • Peppermint: Cooling and refreshing, helps to soothe and calm.
 

This tea can be enjoyed in moderation for Kapha dosha or with added warming herbs such as ginger, cinnamon and clove.
