Hibiscus and Licorice Root Tea

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Heat 48 oz of water.
  2. Add tea.
  3. Add boiling water.
  4. Let sit for 30 mins.
  5. Press/strain.
  6. Enjoy at room temperature.
  7. Alternatively, you can add tea and room temp water to the French press and let sit overnight. Press and enjoy in the morning. Setting the tea out in the moonlight to brew enhances the lunar or cooling properties of the tea – this is optional.
  8. Strain and refrigerate any leftover tea. Discard brewed leaves.

Notes

Hibiscus makes an excellent summer beverage to help cool the body and reduce fever.

Hibiscus flowers help purify the blood and the heart, physically and spiritually and they also improve skin complexion and promote hair growth.

Licorice root is both anti-inflammatory and demulcent (moisturizing). It has a sweet quality that helps to enhance the flavor of any beverage. It helps to improve, voice, vision, hair and complexion.

Dosha Type

This recipe primarily reduces Pitta dosha but also works well for Vata in summer when external heat will balance its inherent cooling properties. Kapha should avoid this recipe except when feeling depleted or over heated.

Licorice in excess can cause water retention and exacerbate high blood pressure. It also increases healthy cortisol production and, therefore, should only be consumed in the morning.
