Cinnamon Rose Pancakes

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Mix flour, salt and spices thoroughly. Add buttermilk, water or rice milk and ghee and mix until the batter is moderately thick, but still slightly runny (don’t overmix – it’s okay for the batter to be lumpy).
  2. Heat a frying pan on medium heat and add ½ Tbsp. ghee. Add the batter to pan using a ladle and cook the first side until it starts bubbling in the middle (about 3-5 minutes depending on size). Just before turning to cook the other side, sprinkle a few dried rose petals into the batter.
  3. Serve warm with yogurt and honey or maple syrup.

Notes

These Ayurvedic pancakes are made with whole wheat and brown rice flour and digestive spices, making them grounding and nourishing. They are free of eggs and baking powder or soda.

This recipe includes fiber and protein. The addition of yogurt adds fat and additional protein.

Incorporating a balance of fibre, protien, and fat into every meal is important for maintaining stable blood sugar levels. Fat and protein both slow down the absorption of glucose into the bloodstream, while fibre helps regulate blood sugar levels and promote digestive health.

Cinnamon is a warming spice that helps regulate digestion and blood sugar levels.

Dosha Type

This recipe is grounding and nourishing to vata dosha.

Cinnamon is sweet and warming and has a stimulating effect. It balances both Vata and Kapha doshas.

It has a demulcent action (moistening) due to its sweetness and can be enjoyed in moderation by pitta dosha.

The addition of rose is calming and soothing to both vata and pitta doshas. Kapha can enjoy in moderation.
